But it also allows you to not have the biggotted small mind of speakers of english who go to a french cafe and wonder why they don't speak english. They can. But why should they speak english to serve you. Should they serve the next table in japanese?
English is not the universal language. It is only the universal language of commerce. That distinction is important as we think in the languages we know. Whereas emotions require no language to feel, complex thoughts require languages to formulate. Our thoughts on other races, other people, are formed by our primary language. If our primary language is a language of commerce, value, and possession – in contrast to a language of romance, food, or even snow – then our thoughts on how we see others is limited to these concepts. Hence our history being the history that it is.
Expend the effort learn a language other than English. Or three.
