Barriers for education-related information data exchange within school districts is significantly reduced by the use of SIF.
Notes
* Advantages:
- Build specifically for the exchange of K-12 education-related information.
- SIF 3.x allows for both brokered and direct communication between applications.
* Considerations:
- Domain specific (education) specific of an open standard (xml/json).
- Can exchange data in XML or JSON
- Case studies show significant dollar savings for schools and districts;
- Required by many school districts
- implemented by many SMS vendors and Zone Integration Servers (ZIS)
- Even mandated in some cases (eg: Oklahoma)
- SIF 3.x no longer requires a broker (ZIS).
