Summary
Process
Customize Ribbon (ie default app) Shortcuts
* In Word,
* Key ALT-F or from the menu select Files/Options
* Select Customize Ribbon (dumb name for a tab deal with shortcuts, but whatever)
* At the bottom of the dialog, select Customize... Keyboard shortcuts
* In the right hand Command dialog, start typing a word to jump to the correct entry.
* Assign a new keystroke…(tip: consider remove unnecessary ones)
Tips
- In order to get them out of the way of Style Shortcuts you set for Strong and Emphasis, change the following inline formatting shortcuts:
- Home/Bold from
Ctrl-BtoCtrl-Shift-B, so thatCtrl-Ncan be set to Style 'Strong'. - Home/Italic from
Ctrl-ItoCtrl-Shift-I, so thatCtrl-Ican be set to Style 'Emphasis'. - File/New – remove
Ctrl-N, so thatCtrl-Ncan be set to Style 'Normal'.
Customize Style Shortcuts
- In Word,
- On the Home Menu,
- Right click a Style in the
Quick Styles(eg: Strong) - Select Modify
- Set the Shortcut.
As stated elsewhere, if there is identical Ribbon/App shortcut defined, it will still be in effect (Style Shortcuts seem to be second citizens…) you'll have to un-assign the Ribbon/App one before you see the intended change.
