IT:AD:Sharepoint:HowTo:Configure a Different Url for Site
Situation
You've just installed SharePoint on a machine (eg: QA17),
the Wizard has created a new Collection, and one Site in it, and given
it the url http://QA17)… you wan it be something more complex.
Like sp.17.CORPWGqa.local
Solution
- Use Site Admin to change binding.
- Ensure Site Admin is DOMAIN account, not local Admin (always helps)
Issues
If after ensuring:
- IIS site has correct bindings, and site is configured, and you can't see it… The problem could be the following: You had the browser set to automatically detect settings which was going to CORPwgpx2 which then uses CORP DNS to resolve domain name. The CORP DNS can't resolve the SP.17…… domain name. And therefore can't find the site.
