Summary
- A service is made up of:
- People – those resources necessary for delivering the service
- Processes – lays the foundation and provides direction for supporting the service
- Technology – hardware, software, infrastructure
- Outcome – the results of the above components
There are different kinds of services:
A Business Service is a Service that is delivered to Business Customers by Business Units (eg: Claims Processing Service, Loan Service, etc.). A Business Unit may offer a Service Catalog of multiple Services.
Where it gets a little confusing is in an IT Business Unit, which provides an IT Business Service Catalog listing a set of IT Business Services available to its customers (other Business Units).
Backing these IT Business Services is a set of Technical Services, which the IT department uses to develop its IT Service Catalogs.
