IT:AD:School Interoperability Framework (SIF)

Summary

Barriers for education-related information data exchange within school districts is significantly reduced by the use of SIF.

Notes

  • Advantages:
    • Build specifically for the exchange of K-12 education-related information.
    • SIF 3.x allows for both brokered and direct communication between applications.
  • Considerations:
    • Domain specific (education) specific of an open standard (xml/json).
    • Can exchange data in XML or JSON
    • Case studies show significant dollar savings for schools and districts;
    • Required by many school districts
      • implemented by many SMS vendors and Zone Integration Servers (ZIS)
    • Even mandated in some cases (eg: Oklahoma)
    • SIF 3.x no longer requires a broker (ZIS).
