A Microsoft technology for encrypting whole hard-drives.

  • Advantages:
    • I believe the encyrption is tied to the hardware. You can't just use the HD in another computer.
  • Considerations:
    • IT:AD:TrueCrypt development was stopped at some point, and the devs recommended that users convert to IT:AD:Bitlocker as they considered it offered better security.
    • BitLocker encrypts all personal and system files on the drive where Windows is installed, or on data drives on the same computer.
    • If one user unlocks it, all other users on the system can use the hard-drive.
    • It works on the whole hard-drive – and is not to be used on individual files.
  • Disadvantages:
