Creating a VM is relatively easy.

Installing the OS is easy too -- bar one infuriating detail that will stump you a while...

Process

If you've never done this before, you'll probably go batty before you figure it out

Process

You need to enable SSH first;

In the vSphere Client go to Configuration -> Security profile -> select Properties next to Services -> select SSH from the list -> Options -> Start

Now you can SSH into your host with username root and password.

My server has no DVD tray, so the most efficient way is to install the *.iso from a usb memory stick.

Process

	* Download the .iso (eg: VMware-ESXi-5.1.0-799733-HP-5.32.5.iso) from:

It can be done (<http://communities.vmware.com/message/1044988#1044988>)

But...

It's a really bad idea to port forward to the ESXi Server. It's a thin OS, that is never updated.
* <http://communities.vmware.com/thread/217420>

A much better solution is to port forward RDP to an internal Windows Server
